I hope you enjoyed my first post. Let me tell you a little more about myself before you start judging. I started taking videos with my phone on a roadtrip up the Garden Route of South Africa in 2012. I never really bothered to make cinematic movies; I was more interested in creating a movie which gives my friends and I an opportunity to reminisce on the good times we had. Since then I upgraded from a Blackberry to an iPhone and one of my biggest inspirations and best freind, Dirk, has recently graduated from SAE with a degree in film, so I've had someone to help me learn. We have always gone on adventures and filmed things, so I thought it would be appropriate that I make a video blog.
Traveling and capturing the moments along your trip go hand-in-hand. Sometimes you just need to look out the window and notice the little things. The video below was shot in Namibia on our way from Fish River Canyon to Sossuvlei in a little town close to Keetmanshoop. It's one of those dusty, main roads in the middle of nowhere where you wonder to yourself, 'what does one do here?'. Well, the people are friendly and they love the tourists. The following video is called "chasing the dust". It is a tracking shot of a little boy racing a dog along the dusty road. I slowed down the frame rate so that you can see the beauty of the surrounding town, the emotions of the boy and the dog, and the little movement that is going on in the background. What you essentially see traveling in some places could be hours and hours of barren land. But I urge you to chase the dust, go to AfrikaBurn or somewhere new that you've never been and slow it down.
This blog is something that I would like to develop over time, thus I hope you don't mind if my movies lack something extra special. It is a project in the making.
